Question:

Is the Sims 3 going to have as many expansion packs as the Sims 2 has?

The Sims 2 has so many expansion packs and they are pretty expensive. I'm about to buy 'Apartment Life' the final Sims 2 expansion pack and so after that is released the Sims 3 will be on the shelves. If I buy the Sims 3 I'm going to want the expansion packs that follow so I want to know if it's worth wasting my money on what seems like infinite Sims games.

  1. Hopefully not, it's so unnecessary and expensive. The Sims 1 is the best, good expansion packs and no unnecessary **** like the Sims 2...

  2. The Sims 3 will probably have about the same amount of EP's as the Sims 2, but I think they will be better than the Sims 2's. In just the base of the game, you will get cars, fishing, young adult life stage, and jewelry from some of the Sims 2 Expansion Packs. I'm pretty sure one EP will be Pets, but that is just a guess.

I hope they don't have as many because what I noticed was it was very expensive, too many gameplay options which made playing very confusing, and also my computer started running very slow... which is a plus on the Sims 3 is, they made it so that it can run easily on an older machine.

    Hope this helps!

If this isn't enough information on the Sims 3, you can go to:

  3. Well I think it probably will since EA will try to make as much money as possible from the buyers.

My advice would be to stick with the sims 2 for a few more years, because you've spent quite a bit of money on sims 2 expansions which seem to be just fine. Don't buy the sims 3 until EA bring out something about the game that really appeals to you!

  4. I know what you mean.  EA seems to regard Sims simply as a cash cow.  Many players haven't really finished playing with Sims 2 and the new game is due out in February.  I think there's going to be a lot of playing fatigue actually, especially amongst older, more established players.  I have a feeling quite a lot of us are going to skip this one.  Actually, it was like this to some extent with Sims 1 and some players never moved on.  Besides, in some ways the new game sounds like the same sort of lame effort that was Sims City Societies.

Whatever (and I'm not sure yet whether I will be getting the new game), you can be certain there will be expansions for the new game.  EAxis has already stated that there will be.  The new game is going to be a lot less interesting to play at the start anyway.  They've already said no driving cars (there will be cars but they will 'disappear' off the driveway when in use - no following your sims downtown), no pets, no weather, no university - just basic gameplay, just like Sims 2 was when it was first released.   They have already said there will be at least 7 EPs, like Sims 1 and 2, and possibly up to 10.

If you are young and strapped for cash, you might want to think about that - also any new content supplied by Maxis will have to be paid for, they will be using the Sims Store to release new content.  No more free gifts though one good thing is that paysites will be gone for good - substituted by the ultimate paysite that is EAxis (great way to treat your fans).  There will be an Exchange but there's not a lot of good stuff on the present Exchange.  More interesting custom content is developed by the independent fan sites.  It's not clear, yet, whether fan sites will be viable - they're likely to be in direct competition with the Sims Store.  It also depends on how moddable custom content is.  If it's limited to just recolouring Maxis meshes, it's unlikely there will be a large number of fan sites.  If the fans can crack the game files and develop modding tools, the fan sites are likely to be as lively as they are now.  Give it some thought - maybe spend your money on something else for a while.  There are some great games out there.

I suspect that many of us might be more interested in buying the game when a few EPs have been released which will make the gameplay more interesting.  Also, when there are a few hacks, fixes and mods available to make the gameplay less bland and buggy.

  5. Hmm........ I don't know I hope not. I'm not gonna buy the sims 3. it looks stupid......

  6. No, EA won't introduce any expansion packs at all.

Instead of huge costy expansion-packs, you will have the choice of what you like.

For example: I only like the cars from nightlife, and the objects from open for business. So now you see everythign apart, so you can buy just those things you like.

This was in an interview with Ben Bell bu 1up!, last year.
