Is the Smart Fortwo Hybrid, or Electric?

I live in America and was wondering if the Smart Fortwo can be bought as a hybrid or fully electric.

The Smart Fourtwo, is powered by a gasoline engine that gets 32 MPG city and 40 MPG highway.

With a top speed of 90 MPH.

there is plans for an electric version, but not in the US now.

As far as I know, they are fully gasoline. They just rely on things like their extremely small size to get goo economy. You can buy them here in the US, but they are hard to find and usually cost more than they should because they are usually purchased at expensive import dealerships.

Yeeks, I get better mileage than that and my car can actually carry stuff.

Not yet, but an electric version of the SmartCar is in development.  They're currently leasing some in the UK and are shooting for 2010 to make them available in the US.
