  1. Sis,

Tablet PC is the best thing sliced bread. The text recognition is great and I used it. Its excellent for students for taking notes.

Get the tablet PC which has a regular keyboard too, it comes with a rotating screen so you get the best of both worlds.

Microsoft Windows Tablet Edition is deadly accurate in pen to text recognition so no matter how bad your handwriting is, it will know what youre typing.

also you can jot notes and draw cool drawings using the pen, its much better than drawing with a puny mouse or trackpad.

    Hope I helped.

    Peace

  2. tablet is mainly used for stylish purpose.  It just looks cool and is high mobility laptop, that's about it. You should do a research wither this tab... convert to tablet, that way you can use laptops that turns the screen and looks cool at the same time (HP should have 'em)

  3. Ive never used a tablet before but I would recommend it if you are an artist or is one of those persons involved in business.

  4. Tablets to me seem to suck for anything that a normal person might find appealing about them.

For instance, you might want to draw with one, thinking you could take your skill with a pencil and apply it to a computer.  Wrong.

Or you might type pathetically slow, and think that writing with a pen might speed up your data entry.  Wrong again.

Maybe I am missing something but they seem to only be good for touch screen type software.

I'd avoid them personally, and just learn to type faster.  Even if you hunt and peck its still going to be faster than trying to get your tablet to recognize what you are writing accurately.

  5. I've been using TabletPC's for almost 5 years now and would never go back to a regular laptop.

A convertible TabletPC (swivel screen on keyboard) does everything that a laptop does, plus has so much more. I myself use a slate TPC and only attach a keyboard if absolutely needed (maybe once or twice a year). I handwrite everything and use the built in handwriting recognition if it needs to be converted to text. Recognition is instantaneous, it tracks the words as quickly as you write them and editing errors is very easy.

The mobility factor is much better with a TPC. I can stand, sit, lounge, or walk and still use my Tablet. you just can't do that with a laptop.

To learn more go to these 2 TabletPC forums. You can find discussions and links to TPC specific apps and tools.

As for being a student, a TabletPC is a great choice. Most students need to be able to take notes, highlight items, create drawings, use mathematical formulae, etc. With the correct programs a TPC is much better suited for this than a laptop.

If you go with the TabletPC look at these 2 apps as they are excellent for note taking:

    Microsoft OneNote:

It's not free, but student discounts make it quite inexpensive.

    Microsoft Research Inkseine (beta)

This is a free app from MS's Research division. It's not quite as good at setting up a "notebook" style folder system, but has some excellent features since it is built for TPC's exclusively.
