Is the Toyota Yaris really that good on gas?

I've read some reviews and most people say they get between 38-42 mpg, but the mpg rating is 34-36 mpg.

  1. I don't know why the "estimated" mpg is so low on the Yaris because I AVERAGE 39mpg with mine!  I have a 2007 4dr sedan base model and this thing is unbelievable.  The gas tank is 10.5 gallons and I'm always getting more than 400 miles per tank.  Not only the gas, this little car has plenty of room too!  I'm 6'2" 260lbs and I'm completely comfortable in it.  I love my Yaris! Everyone should have one....or TWO!

  2. Yes, and so is the Honda Civic.

Both of these cars get better  or similar gas mileage as the Smart Fortwo.

  3. 29 city to 36 hwy is reported by Edmunds.com, if you're talking about the hatchback with a manual transmission. 29/35 with an auto.

For me, though, it's the top pick for a uber-small car. The Smart is just lame.

With the Yaris you get 50% more power, 100% more seats, 50% more cargo capacity, the Toyota brand reliability, and the Toyota dealer and service network in a car that costs less. What do you give up? 11% fuel economy compared to the Smart.
