Question:

Is the UK Met Office stupid or what?

The new claim to pinpoint local heavy rainfall and so allow for 'emergency' clearing of drains etc may well reduce local surface water flooding. BUT doing so will send the water into the rivers more quickly and that will cause them to burst their banks with greater speed and probably with even greater resultant flooding. Comments please.

  1. It's sort of like minimising the amount of areas that will be flooded at the expense of the severity of the flooding in the areas that will be flooded. Also, the areas that will certainly be affected by the floods because of their proximity to the rivers can be better prepared, in any case.

I think that's the main aim, but maybe not such a good idea.

  2. Doubt it will work. How many times in the year are the met office right about the forecast?

They have to struggle along with £70million pounds worth of computers and programming,be a bit more lenient.

And in any case. who is going to clear the drains at midnight on a saturday?

  3. Weather forecasting, although the prediction techniques have improved, is still an inexact science.

No, I don't believe they are stupid.  Just the people who blame them every time we get bad weather.  Sometimes, storms deviate for no discernible reason.

Are you always perfect when you do your job?  If not, then just accept we get bad weather sometimes, then get over it.

  4. or what

  5. They are what!

  6. just when you thought you heard it all unbelievable
