It seems a lot of the world's media are reporting the latest alarmism from the UN is food prices. Does that mean that this climate change alarmism is going to blow over? http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/world-in-crisis-soaring-food-prices/2008/04/14/1208025091644.html?page=2

  1. Hopefully not. The way I see it is that the immediate crises over food prices requires  more attention now than something which will happen at a later date. Its a shame that the greatest nation and polluter is dragging its feet along like a rag doll. Hopefully the next administration would pay a bit more attention.

  2. Food shortages and price hikes are some of the predicted outcomes of AGW.

  3. Hello

I think so. Now a days Climate Change is a Burining issue all over the World.

Heavy Rains, Kathereena, Sea Winds, sea is entereing inside Land, Heavy Cyclone etc etc.

  4. farking well hope so !

the world just wants to enjoy being here !

we don't need  all this alarmist scaremongering GORE-MANIA !

putting up with all the godgobbing rubbish is bad enuff !!

  5. If you can imagine the politics going on behind the headlines, I figure it goes something like this:

UN:  Hey US, we want more money and control over you.  We've devised a theory that blames you for all of the world's problems.

US:  OK then, we've developed a means to correct our imaginary pollution emissions...but we're going to use the corn we've been giving to the world in the UN's name to do it.

UN:  Wait a minute, you're not playing right!  You were supposed to give us MORE of your wealth, not less!

US:  Then you better figure out which problem is real, world hunger or global warming.

Moral of the story....Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

  6. God lets hope so, of course, if there is now a food shortage, who knows that might ease 'global warming' after all, but then they would blame the decomposing bodies on the methane release wouldn't they?

You know the cost of food is not a joking matter, but mark my words, all you will hear out of the UN, is who the US should give more to ease the pain, you wont hear calls on the middle east to give, or to russia or china, no it will be the ole stand by

American tax payer who is called on to bail out the world once again.  but by the way be sure to quite driving you cars and shut off your power plants, just before you wire the money to the UN.

  7. Your article appears to say the opposite

" contributing factors to rising food prices are the high price of oil (which increases costs of food production and distribution), population growth in Asia and drought in wheat-producing countries "

That agrees with the research I've seen like the Texas A&M study that places most of the blame on petroleum prices.  (That obviously is because of the self interested adherence to an obsolete technology by a priveleged few).

The UN has put out a position paper lambasting the ill advised ethanol production programs sponsored and subsidized by the USA, but that's something most environmentalists would agree with.

  8. According to independent research ( never believe anything the UN states ) there are currently 12 countries, either suffering a severe food shortage or right at the brink. Some, such as Haiti, will almost certainly fall into anarchy again, with riots and coups.

Worldwide, food prices, as we all too well know here in the US, have increased by an average 83%, the highest increase since 1977.

The actual causes are still debatable and subject to "dispute" depending on your info source.

However, in the US, this insane plan about ethanol from corn has made a lot of farmers change their crops, thus everything connected to corn, goes up and up.

Farm land, world wide, has decreased by 16%, either from weather alterations, desert expansion or overuse (sterile).

Alarmist? I guess that means a person who "feels" something very bad is going on then.

Note: The NOAA recently released a report, indicating that although the massive "ozone depleted" hole has diminished over the past 10 years, there is now evidence of 11 new, but smaller ones.

  9. there also today are reports about space debris and pollution killing as many of us as the great smog did, so i guess they've realised either that global warming isn't happening or certainly that man didn't cause it, but to keep the new taxes they are now saying that the pollution we make is killing us instead of the planet, which is spot on, pollution certainly isn't good for our health but i don't like the way they go about it.

  10. One of the world's leading advocate of climate change causing more hurricanes changed his stance in order to save his reputation.

I suspect many climate scientists will do the same.

  11. I think they now know its a big IF!!!!.This is a myth created to earn big dollars. The same thing last time when OZONE layer was the Earths dire problem. They tried to make money about the OZONE layer but there were not too many doors or avenues opened to con people out of their money.ITS JUST A BIG CON!!!
