Is the UN trying to get a standing army?

  2. The UN charter does not really allow for a standing army. It also holds that military action by the body must be approved by all members of the Security Council with each holding equal veto power. While I would not say that it is out of the realm of possibility, it would violate the spirit of the charter. Further if this should ever happen you can forget sovereignty for any nation as the UN would then have the ability to impose it's will regardless of national borders. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and there is no more corrupt body on the face of the planet than the UN.
