russia has an inferior military overall - however, they have a strategic nuclear weapons advantage on the US. They have more nukes and a larger land mass to absorb nuclear hits with.

Russia would lose in a conventional war with the US, and they would risk losing their nuclear arsenal in a stealth conventional or nuclear attack by  the US.

Russia implements a "launch on warning" strategy - in the event of war with the US they will launch a massive pre-emptive nuclear attack against NATO countries including France, UK, and the USA.

Russias inability to detect a strike has made them an even more dangerous opponent - the proverbial cornered dog.

Russia no longer has satellites monitoring US missile fields 24 hours a day, in addition they cannot see many locations over the earths oceans where NATO submarines can launch their weapons. Unlike the US which can monitor the entire planet for infrared signals from missile launch plumes and which possesses more sophisticated radar.

It is very dangerous situation, this is why good communication is absolutely critical between these two nuclear powers.

Russia is conrnered and blind and they will bite.
