Question:

Is the US getting jipped in gymnastics in the 2008 olympics?

I think that China has many superior athletes in this sport, however I just saw Jonathan Horton's routine on the high bar and it was unbelievable! I am now watching the individual all-around and I am surprised at his score! Triple twisting double layout on his landing which only a handful of gymnasts can do in the world, but he gets a score of 15.35? The American gymnasts seem to do much more difficult routines, but with less rewarding scores. Any comments?

  1. Don't you find it weird how U.S. gets jipped in every single gymnastics event?  Isn't it such a consistent pattern that, oh I don't know, maybe they're not getting jipped?  Unless you have a serious background in gymnastics, I highly doubt you know what a difficult routine is relative to the neutral international judges.  There's no controversy on any neutral cite right now, and to me, it seems like the Chinese are the ones who are consistently performing the more difficult routines.

  2. They are getting cheated, that's a fact. Me and my friends were saying the same thing, Jonathan Horton's performance was amazing and they gave him a low score = (

I'm trying to figure out WHY? I mean it's not like they aren't a international judging panel.

  3. China has never won gold. China is now hosting 2008 Olympics. Scores are altered so that the big host nation can get gold. It's really the same thing as what happened in 2004 at Athens. Paul Hamm didn't deserve his medal when he fell on his butt several times; the Koreans performed much much better and should have gotten the gold. Judges were bribed and a big scandal came out of it. The same goes here but omit the scandal.

  4. C stands for China, China stands for CHEATERS! Have you ever wondered why many chinese restaurant have a FAT RED C for their sanitary, quality rating. Seriously. One restaurant I went to tried hiding their rating sign behind a tree. And obviously, china is cheating- giving lower scores to other countries, switching out the little girl because they thought she was "ugly", using under-aged gymnasts.. so on. I'm not going to bother typing out every criticism about that C place. GO TEAM USA!!!

  5. Did you even see the Chinese gymnasts? They are so much better, that's why they won!

  6. You aren't the only one one wondering this. I've seen some great routines from both China and USA gymnasts. Let's say a American gymnast stumble a little on his landing, but had a fantastic routine, and the Chinese gymnast does the same the American gymnast seemed to get deducted more. I don't know maybe its just my imagination, but I've seen that on both the men and women side.

  7. not just the US but heaps of other countries as well. it's not just the mens but womens too. to get a high score, you must pull of a pretty basic routine or you run the risk of a lower score for attempting a harder move and not doing so well. it pays to be safe!

  8. Well, that's why you're not a judge. Leave it to the experts.

  9. i totally agree with you. its just that the us is better so they r going harder on judging. lol. im joking. anyways, i agree with you. i cant say they r getting jipped, but who knows.

  10. yeah i noticed that too. people are saying that the chinese gymnasts are much better but even if they are that's not the point. Jonathan Horton's routine was one of the best i saw and it deserved well over a 15.35 regardless of whether the chinese are better

i also noticed that nastia liukin had a perfect routine and got barely a 15. Shawn Johnson had a beam routine where she made not one mistake. She didn't even lose her balance at all and she got a 15.8? then the chinese girls come up with routines that aren't half as difficult as shawns and they all score over 16.

I'm still not convinced of their ages either.

  11. ITs just the new scoring system being used... it makes it near impossible to get a perfect score... i prefer the old systems with 10's and 9's and such...

    also dont complain...

it makes the USA seem like a bunch of whiners...

  12. There is NO WAY Alicia Salvatore didn't belong on the platform for the bronze in vault--Fei had a MAJOR deduction on execution AND she fell and STILL just edged out Salvatore.  There is no question in my mind that the Chinese are getting better scores than they deserve--not only THAT--most of their team is under age.  The Americans, in this situation, are not a bunch of whiners--we're just not all blind.  I think we're taking the fact that we're getting completely RIPPED off with alot of class--there is really nothing else we CAN do.  Considering that the Chinese goverment takes these kids away from their families and places them in gymnastics camps at the age of 3 or 4--I'll take the American way--where kids and familes get to choose--WAY TO GO ALICIA!!  I, for one, am so proud of you!  You rocked it!
