I saw something about banning plastic sacks in 2009 in a question before, but it did not specify where the ban was going to be and I cannot find any web resources about this.

  1. I hope so. I HATE those things. I have to work with them every day. (Walmart)

I have bought reusable bags that are recyclable when they get too badly worn. Once the plastic is taken away, people will find an alternative.

I use the plastic bags for cleaning my cat's litterbox. I don't know what I'll use when I don't have the bags anymore, but I know I'll find something.

  2. IF SOMEONE DOES, I PLAN TO KEEP ON USEING THEM, BECAUSE THE LAST TIME I LOOKED AT AMERICA IT WAS'NT COMMUNIST AND THIS MEANS FREEDOM OF USE OF WHAT I OWN. ALL BECAUSE SOME OF YOU CANT TAKE CARE OF YOUR PLASTIC. DOES'NT MEAN I HAVE TO GET RID OF MINE==NO WAY JOSE

  3. What would they substitute the plastic bags with?

  4. It seems to be a trend starting.  Some countries have already done it and some cities here in North America are beginning to.  It is a ban on stores giving out the flimsy plastic - that we see blowing all over - polluting water ways and harming wildlife. There is a push for folks to use re-usable bags whenever possible and also having stores offer more sturdy bags for a fee. I am glad that people re-use even the flimsy plastic bags/sacks - I have as well, but as a country we use way to many of them - often for just the one little item we purchased. If people decline the use of these - or just but the PURCHASED item in their purse, back pack, or pocket - then that would save on resources and on garbage!

This is the only Earth we have and we should take good care of it.

    :-)

  5. I doubt it.  The grocery store where I shop hyped how they were going green and sold reusable bags.  I bought some and when I bring them in the baggers groan and complain about using them.

I worked in a grocery store between 1987-1993 and we tried to bring in reusable bags then too and they never caught on then either.  I can't see them banning plastic grocery sacks unless people suddenly become a lot less lazy.

  6. I hope so!

The USA uses around 43 million plastic bags per hour!!

As plastic does not biodegrade, all the plastic bags that have ever been produced are still on the planet... and probably will be for another hundred years or more.

If we are not care full, the world will be covered in a layer of plastic, sort of like putting the earth in cling film!

  7. I hope not, then I'll have to start buying trash bags again....I save up all those grocery bags to use around the house.
