The US dollar has gained strength. Is this a suckers rally? Gold is so cheap to buy right now, and I have heard so much of the dollar collapsing and after watching "Money as Debt" (google it) I can see the dollar collapsing. It has regained strength, but for how long will the USD be going up for?

  1. I read once that there are only two kinds of governments.  Those who have gone broke and those who are going broke,  Russia went broke in 1980 or so and now they are very solvent.  I guess things have to be rearranged once in a while.  Perhaps it is our turn in the barrel as they say.  Hang in there, and remember you can have fun without money.

What worries me is this:  Kurt Vonnegut Jr in one of his books described America pre and post WWII.

Pre:  25% unemployment, hobos abounding, etc

Post:  Every one had a house with a picket fence, four kids and a good job.

    Scary, no?

  2. it will not collapse suddenly, it will continue losing value for a year or so.

  3. The economic news from Europe for the past few months has generally been worse then that from the US, and if oil doesn't start rising again at least compared to the Euro and pound the dollar will probably gain some more ground.

  4. In the absence of a war with China, the answer is likely no it will not collapse.  Although the credit crisis is taking up the news, it isn't as bad as it appears on television.  It is true that at the margin, the problems are not trivial, but in aggregate they are not bad enough for a principal currency to collapse.

  5. It already dropping today . How long before it is totally worthless who knows but it will not be long now .

  6. Nope it wont.  Look at other countries now that are in the beginnings of their own financial crisis.  Europe is going to get hit so much harder than the U.S.   Its sort of like the housing boom.  The boom happened in the U.S. first, then europe, so the credit crisis happened here first, next stop...Europe.   So the USD devalued a bit, but as the Euro and pound start to devalue, it will even everything out.   Mark my words.  In 5 years the Euro will be even with the dollar or very close to it.    The world still loves the good ol' USD and most of the world still think the Euro is overpriced and needs to come down.

  7. it has been loosing value for ages!! and it could happen at any time... were just spending worthless paper... im suprized its gone on this long! save your gold peices
