  1. Having interned at the UN, I can say that it is.  It is definitely useful in social services and international monitoring.  The problem is that soverign nations do not like submitting authority.  Also, the European worldview of coopertation and negotiation is a better fit with the UN than this Administration's "my way or the highway" approach.

  2. NO they are only good at usurping the authority of sovereign Nations!!!!The US needs to get out of the UN and evict them from our shores, then NYC can us the building to help the homeless!!!

  3. United Nations or UN is a forum established after the second world war. Like whatever fora preceding it, the Concert of Europe after Napoleonic war, and the League of Nations after the first world war, it aims to establish an international world order in which peace would be sustained after such great devastating wars.

As a student in international relations, my professor once made a teasing comment that: "in UN, when a small nation is in dispute with a small nation, the dispute disappears. When a small nation is in dispute with superpower, the small nation disappears. When the superpower is in dispute with another superpower, the United Nations disappears."

Although the above statement might not necessarily be true, it signifies the characteristics of international relations in international organisation. However, having UN create a forum which nations can air their views, besides creating lots and lots of good jobs for us all.

  4. if it is that much useful then it should have stopped U.S in the war affairs

  5. No they are a toothless tiger!

  6. Yes the United Nations is very Valuable to the world, as it is a way, or place to discuss peace, trade rights, pacts, treaties, etc... But all in all the U.N. also helps countries in need, as they send in aid that is funded by many countries.

  7. Well, lets think about that. If we would have given it more time before invading Irak, I am sure we would have gotten more support and 3000 of our troops and 700 000 Iraki civilians may still be alive. And another 3 million Irakis would still be at home and not in refugee camps all over the world.

And we may have more friends in the rest of the world, too and far less terrorists trying to harm this nation.

  8. Its only useful for charity work like UNICEF or WHO.....in New York its a bunch or rich guys living in mansions, double parking, getting rich off of us and living the good life on our dime.   Think about it.

  9. On a scale of 1 to 10, about 7.

  10. No. The UN is as useless as udders on a bull- Udderly useless.

  11. No, especially since the US feel free to pull out of any treaty they sign into, if the US wont follow there own rules how can we expect other countries to follow them

  12. If you are pro-America then no they are not useful. if you are against America then yes, they are your friends

  13. Not really, and this question has been ask by some top elected officials over the years.

  14. The UN is probably the greatest threat to true freedom in the world . Its an association of governments, not civilians. They share ideas on how to more easily control their subjects.

  15. They sit around passing resolutions about Israel. That's about it. In order for the UN to actually effect change, they must rely on its main enforcement arm: the United States. That's why the UN couldn't really do anything when the US had the "audacity" to disobey its will and invade Iraq. What was the UN supposed to do? Tell the US to spank itself? I think the concept of a voluntary international body in which countries try to work out disputes diplomatically before rushing to war is on its face a good idea. I don't think the UN is a good representation of the idea, though.

  16. Nope. It's a waste of US time and money - we don't need anti- Americans telling us what to do and how to do and we don't need to pay them money to tell us that.

The UN passes stupid things that they can't enforce. Their idea of enforcement is "writing a stern letter" to a dictator. Their army is also useless and so are their weapons inspectors.

The UN is corrupt and so is the leader, Kofi Annan. Check out the Oil for Food scandal if you don't believe me.

  17. No. My country gives the most money to them, but all they do is tell us what we can and can't do. The UN sucks, and should be dissolved.

  18. It may not be perfect but it is the ONLY vehicle for communication of all countries in this increasingly smaller world. Just because we may not like different votes doesnt mean we should opt out. And though there has been some corruption in distributing money, that is no different from individual governments. Its made up of humans, hence imperfect.

  19. Yes. The UN helps keep peace in war-torn countries

    For Example

The UN once sent a peace-keeping force to PNG after it declared independence.

  20. yes, they do have a great unencumbered drug trade going on.

  21. Yeah, it was created by the US and it's allies after WW2 as a platform for all the nations of the world to talk out it's differences, and vote on world policy instead of just starting a war.  That way the countries with minority votes have to think twice before going against the majority. If we had the UN before WW2 we might have been able to talk Germany out of a war.  Instead they teamed up with Japan, and caused total chaos.  The UN could eventually become the new government that is prophesied in the bible.
