  1. The name is United States of America, and "America" is not an everyday word. If it were the name , then also "United Kingdom" (United Kingdom of the Great Britain and Northern ireland) would fall in the same category.

El Salvador is one, for example. (Means "the saver" in Spanish)

    Costa Rica (rich coast)

    Christmas Island.

Antigua y Barbuda (Ancient and Bearded)

    Cabo Verde (green cape)

    Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

    Greenland

    Iceland

    Montenegro (green mount)

    Puerto Rico (rich port)

    San Marino (Saint sailor)

    Virgin Islands

  2. the name is "United States of America"

if you count that, then "People's Republic of China" is another.

    There are many more

  3. Is "America" not a proper word made from someone's name? Amerigo Vespucci

If we dismiss qualifiers, the name of the country would be the same as the name of the country to the south:  Estados Unidos (Mexicanos).

Then, there is Ice Land which, before the glaciers began to melt, was a very descriptive name.

    ---

Ivory Coast  (ivory is a substance, coast is along the ocean)

    Montenegro (black mountain)

Netherlands (nether is an English word = lower -- they are lower than sea level)

    ---

There are countries whose name come from the name of an object in another language, and the name is now recognized as the English name of the country (Montenegro is one example,  Barbados is another -- from the Portuguese: os barbados, which are fig trees (ficus citrifolia), some kind of banyan tree.
