Is the University of the Arts London a good school?

Hello,

I'm an American student that just completed my Sophmore year of College. I'm transfering schools and am trying to decide between studying in London at the College of Communications, University of the Arts London- or

Hofstra University in New York.

My major is Journalism and International Relations.

Is Uni Arts London considered a top University? And would a degree from there be impressive?

I have many questions so if you would like to help answer some- it would be indescribably appreciated!

University of the Arts, London, has some very strong colleges in it, and some very strong majors. But their strongest majors are those in the arts. Central Saint Martins, for example, has one of the best fashion design programs in the world. But their academic majors, like what you're considering, aren't usually ranked very highly. I'll link to the Times university rankings, and you can click through on U of the Arts - it ranks about #60 on the list - and read their opinion of it.

In other words, is U of the Arts, London impressive? It is if you major in fashion design or several other art related fields. But for journalism and international relations? Not so much, no.

In addition, although you can truly transfer to another US university, and have your college credits follow you, at least in part, you won't be able to do that if you go to school in the UK. You won't be granted advanced standing. You will need to start at year 1. Luckily, most UK university degrees only take three years to complete, so you really wouldn't be that far behind.

If you do decide to stay in the US, do a year or semester or summer abroad in the UK or elsewhere. I'd also like you to do at least one internship in the field you hope to enter when you graduate.
