  1. Yes the Tudor family are the ancestors of the Windsors.

  2. If you remember back to History class, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were the end of the Tudor line. Because Elizabeth never had a child, her cousin Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland was next in line. It got a little bloody and Mary was executed during Elizabeth's lifetime. So Mary's son became James IV of Scotland and James I of England. The House of Stuart continued until the early 1700s with a succession of people who inherited the throne as brothers or nieces and nephews of a reigning monarch.

After Queen Anne died, the House of Stuart died and the House of Hanover began with the ascension of George I, the German whose mother was Anne's closest living Protestant relative. By that point in time, the Brits wouldn't allow Catholics to take the throne (and they still don't). So George was 50 odd relatives out in the line, but he was it. The House of Hanover continued until the death of George III's granddaughter, Victoria.

Victoria's son was the first of the House of Saxe-Coburg because that was his father's lineage. The reality was that when WWI broke out, they were fighting their own cousin, Kaiser Wilhelm, who spoke English better than they did. Their link to Germany was too pronounced, so they changed the name of the royal house to "Windsor" to be more English-sounding.

There is a twisted, contorted lineage back to the House of Tudor. It just skips a ruler here and there because of the transfer of rule to brothers and nieces/nephews/grandchildren. But in reality, save for the Grimaldis in Monaco, most of the royals in Europe are one great big intertwined family.

  3. are they related somewhere down the line, yes most definitely

all the major families are related at one point in fact you can look for members of the royal families full names and they include the last name of every great family that they supposedly have blood from. That being said I have no idea where they are related or how far back.
