Is the X-Factor starting early this year?

Ok, I see the X-Factor 2008 is starting today. Is it starting earlier than last year?

I ask because the finals in 07' were near Christmas; I'm sure the competition doesn't last four months.

Can anyone clear this up?

Your right it is early and thats so it doesn't clash with Stictly Come Dancing, which beat it in the ratings last year.
