  1. If not totally trashed donate your mattresses to either the salvation army, good will, or other thrift stores.

I've seen used mattresses go for up to $150 a piece. you might even think about getting some cash for it at a garage sale. Try 20 bucks or something like that and just see what happens. I've sold beds this way and made some decent cash. I sold a twin set for over $50 bucks to landlords who are looking to furnish there place on the cheap.

The idea about freecycle is a good one as well. Kudos to that poster : )

  2. Since you posted this in the global warming section....

You should reuse the mattress as a means to sequester carbon....pack it full of charcoal and bury it.

  3. Freecycle.org often places matresses in a new home.  People moving in from out of state, students, people with lots of kids etc.  Just offer the matress state size and conditon.

    (I moderate 2 Freecycle.org groups)

Also thrift stores like Salvation Army and others (just call ahead) often take them too.

  4. If you are buying new, a lot of places will take your old one off your hands; often for only a nominal fee, and sometimes for no charge.

  5. www.freecycle.org

Find your local group and donate it there, otherwise, yes! It winds up in the landfill.

    Good luck & God bless!

**I see someone has already posted that...Great minds think alike...lol.**

  6. If you want, you can join a group called Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) and offer it to anyone who lives in your area. You would be surprised, but someone may need it. It is also very useful to get rid of things you never use and to get things you may need.
