Question:

Is the amount of an emotion in the universe a constant?

in other words.. Do you think an emotion can only be transferred from one person to another person or from one time to another time? For instance if you are happy now; you will either be making someone else equally unhappy or you will be equally unhappy some other time in your life. I am thinking and working on this idea for quite sometime; this answers most of the apparently illogical things in the world like "why good people are never happy", "why bad people remain happy always", "why you will never be satisfied", etc.

  1. No.  There is no law of conservation of an emotion.

For instance, if a major worldwide catastrophe happened, then the total amount of sadness will increase greatly.  Or if a huge comet (on the order of the Chixulub event) were found to be on a collision course with earth, and there was not enough time to divert it, then the amount of worry and despair would skyrocket.

  2. I don't think that's it all. I believe that what goes around comes around. Bad people may seem to be happy but I think that there will be consequences for their actions. Same as good people, they'll eventually be rewarded. That being said, I wouldn't think that happiness and unhappiness is derived from someone being the opposite or there is an equality of each throughout our lifetime.

Think about the many factors that would disprove this theory. We don't know when we're going to die, so people are just clinically depressed, some people are hard to please (always unhappy, perhaps a deeper issue, some are homeless (I don't see how they could be happy on the streets), etc.

Hope I haven't gone too far off track, lol.  Just let me add that most times people have stuff to be happy about and they choose to not realize that. Unfortunately bad people I notice often times don't sit and worry about petty things. Perhaps their carefree attitude does them some good in that aspect.

  3. In my life although I think iI have taught myself to be good by nature, I WORK hard at being happy, I think it is because I am so empathetic that this is. Learning of others hardships is to understand & to feel them, yet I am a news junkie & so for at least an hour every day I hear & feel others strife & sadness. recently i have started exercising, allot & the truth is I feel happy & more able to shoulder the burden.

any~who, i thought your question was interesting, but since our knowlage of the universe is so limited none will be able to understand your questin truly.
