  1. It is according to weight, along with other factors.

Height, weight, drug tolerance, heredity, length of surgery, etc...

Your anesthesiologist will ask you a series of questions to find this out.  BE HONEST AND TRUTHFUL in answering.

That is all factored into how much a person will get.

  2. yeah so if u even need an operation they beter give you a ton

  3. yes, weight and some other things.

  4. Oh, if it were only that simple!

We use weight as a starting point for SOME drugs, but there are many other factors that go into dosages.  Much of what we do is "titrate to effect" - give a little bit at a time until you are where we want you.

The depth of anesthesia needs to be constantly changed as surgical stimulation, blood loss and other things change, so we adjust what we're giving throughout the case.

Some of the drugs we use are dosed based on actual weight and some on ideal body weight, and some are independent of weight.  An average general anesthetic might require 6-10 different medications, and each person is treated differently, according to their particular situation.

  5. weight is part of the equation, so is duration of time to be under and how far down they want to get you...not to mention your age....

its a big long complicated equation, just hope your anst. is good at math..or at least has a good calculator
