I qualify for federal work study, and I will be getting a job in the fall at my university, so my question is how much will I get paid? It says on the finical aid section of my account that I the work study is worth $1800 a semester, is that what I will get paid over the course of the semester? Or is that just what the government will give the university, who will only pay me minimum wage?

  1. This is the amount of money you will be allowed to earn over the course of the semester.  If you divide it up, it's usually 15 to 20 hours a week.  It may be more or less, depending on how much your hourly wages are.  You will get paid every two weeks, or sometimes monthly and will only get paid for the hours you actually work.

Some work study jobs are more than minimum wage, like tutoring jobs requiring minmum GPA's.  Be aware that you will be responsible for finding your own job and depending on the school, there are many more students than there are openings.  Jobs automattically go to upperclassmen who were there last year.  Get on campus a few days early and get one quick!

  2. they are giving you an average. My school library paid me minimum wage and it depends how many hours you work. Work more hours to make more money.
