If so what branch, I was told that you can practice as a cop in the army and that will greatly help you get a job as a police officer as a civilian. If not what are some other great ways to go for?

  1. Having military experience can certainly benefit you when it come to getting a police officer job. You can also gain some police work experience if you join the Army and become an MP. You should get a college degree if you don't have one already. Having a degree will give you more opportunities. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information and advice about becoming a police officer.

  2. yeah, you can be an MP(military police).

  3. Any active duty military experience of two years or more can replace the required college education requirements where necessary.  Also, active duty military experience will often give you as an applicant higher points than non military applicants.

  4. You don't practice policing in the military, you are policing. Unless you have some sort of death wish or are a glutton for punishment I would advise you to stay as far away from the army as you can. Go in the Navy and become an MP or the Air Force.

  5. try putting in an application

  6. You can go into the MPs. They get cop like training but it will not help you get hired any faster. Most departments will waive their college requirement either fully or partially for any military service. Some will give you preference in hiring, not just cops but any city job, if you are a veteran.

See if your town has a cadet or civilian service (the programs have lots of different names) Usually they allow you to work as a police aid when you reach 18 years of age. In many cases you then have a leg up on being hired by that town. You still will have to go through the hiring process and the academy no matter what.

In some states you have to attend a police academy on your own and get certified before a department can hire you. In some you get hired first, then the academy.

  7. My husband is an MP and I know of quite a few that are very ready to get out because they don't really like being an MP.  A lot of higher ranking MPs think they are gods and treat everyone else like complete c**p.  If you want to make good money and get in some practice and be able to put on your resume you've done police work, you can try for DA police (district of the army).  You do exactly what the MPs do.  You work the road in the cars, work cases, write tickets, the whole nine yards.  You get full benefits and it's amazig pay.  You do have to be 21 however, and most military bases require a small physical test (usually just running a mile within like 15 minutes or so.)  Schedules are flexible for civilians and you can't get into trouble the same way military would.  You won't have to worry about being deployed if it's not something you want to really do.

Go to any military base you want to work at and find out how to get to the PMO (provost marshall's office).  Talk to someone there about filling out an application or find out if you need to go to another building.  They'll usually be VERY grateful to help out if it means another man workin the road!

    Best of luck to ya!

  8. The military(U.S.A.) is not a good career choice right now...period.  A better way to become a /good/ police officer is to study social work. i.e. counciling
