  1. Primatology is the study of primates but it overlaps with anthropology. We study apes a good bit because we are so similar.

  2. Primatology studies primates.  It is obviously relevant to humans and where it is it overlaps anthropology.  It would probably be more a biology course.

  3. Yes, especially in evolutionary anthropology, which was one of my Majors at Rutgers University. In evo anthro much time is spent studying living primates as well as ancient hominids such as homo habilis and the australopithicenes (such as Lucy). Most studies are limited to higher primates however, such as macaques, chimpanzees, and gorillas.

Primatology is a field within anthropology, and depending on the universities department many classes on primatology could and should be offered if such a department exists at that said university. One may choose to focus on primatology here at Rutger's if they wish.

  4. Yes, this place is near where I live but I would think that there are others.

  5. Primatology (the study of primates) is a field that incorporates Anthropology, Psychology, and Biology. The different areas focus on different questions, but they often overlap.  Anthropology often looks to nonhuman primate species to better determine the living conditions of extinct human ancestors.  Psychology looks at the way the brain works and how thinking is done.  Biology typically takes a physiological approach.  I was able to study chimps and bonobos as an undergrad through anthropology.  I also have a professor that studied leaf monkeys and spider monkeys and have heard papers from lemurs to aye-ayes to macaques to marmosets.  I wouldnt limit myself to thinking only apes can be studied through anthropology.  Good Luck!
