Is the book Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer appropriate for a very mature 11 year old?

My three nieces (ten turning eleven, eleven and twelve) have read the first three books in the Twilight series. They're very interested in them, and I'd like to gift them the fourth book, Breaking Dawn. However, I'm not sure if it's appropriate. The three of them are VERY mature for their age. I'd like to know if they're appropriate.

Is Breaking Dawn appropriate for very mature ten, eleven or twelve year olds? And are the s*x scenes described -- and the birth scene, which I have heard about. Is the birth scene described too in detail?

Or, shortly, is Breaking Dawn overall appropriate for very mature ten to twelve year olds, and are the s*x and birth scenes described in detail?

  1. A mature eleven or twelve year old would be able to handle what's in the book (it's probably tamer than a lot of stuff they'd see on tv or in the  movies).  Definitely use your judgment and you might want to discuss it with their mother too!

  2. I think you should read the book first.  They don't actually describe the s*x scenes, but they certainly do happen, and references are mentioned a lot.  There was originally going to be a 16 year old age warning on the book, but it was re-edited, to be more appropriate.  Stephenie Meyer talks about clothes being ripped off, the feel under her skin, but that's about it.  There certainly is a lot of passion, but it's not described in great detail.  The birth scene is fine, but I reccomend you read the book first to check out the s*x scenes for your eleven year old.  I would reccomend reading the chapters "Isle Esme", "Unexpected" and "Surprise", because those are the questionable chapters.

  4. omg i think its a good book ahloo :P

  5. Chances are if they have read the first three books in the Twilight series then they will be reading the fourth (no matter what) and truthfully Breaking Dawn doesn't have anything major in the way of bad behavior.

I bet they already read it. Most fans of the series got the new book the day it came out. Maybe in case of that you could just get them a different book series (gives them something else to read) and a gift card to the book store.

I suggest Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. It is age appropriate.

  6. if they have read the first three books then they should be okay with the 4th. nothing is described in detail except maybe the birth which i thought was quite graphic, only coz i hated the fact she got pregant anyway. as for the s*x scenes i think the 1st three books would be worse than the 4th and its probably nothing they havnt heard before in more detail if they are really mature. In short i think its a great series and you'll be a very loved auntie if you buy it for them!!!!!

  7. i heard that they're not that bad and you should still let them read it

  8. Yes! My sister is 11 and she is obsessed with the Twilight series. she's already read Breaking Dawn 4 times! I read the series too, I'm 15, and I think the age range for reading the books is between 10-99! Anybody can read them. They are totally appropriate and an excellent read.

And as of the s*x scene, there are hardly any details. I'm sure that your nieces will understand what's going on. It's fine for them to read.

I hope you do get the fourth book! It's amazing--for any age.

  9. Not Good!

Don't send it. If you really want to then go ahead, but you should at least read it first. I advise that you don't give it to them. Wait a couple of years . . . Steph said that she recommends this book for  . . . I think it was 16 year olds to read. Wooooo I have seen the spoilers and everything, not a chance to read it, I don't think I will. It will be too much for them in my opinion.

  10. Maybe you should read the book first and then come to the decision for yourself, and if you find that it's alright for your mature nieces, go and give it to them

  11. i think that if they've handled the first three, they will be fine with the fourth. the word "s*x" is only mentioned a handful of times in the book and it isn't described. it is hinted, but it could easily go right over their heads. it does talk about how edward tends to break things during intercourse, bella in lingerie, and emmett making fun of the newlyweds. however, i'm sure your nieces can handle it. in fact, you already sound convinced.

  12. well, i've read it, and the scenes weren't described in detail, they started kissing then moved on to the next day or after it was done. with the birth scene not to spoil anything but it was more like a sea section, since the baby was surrounded by this stuff as hard as edwards skin they had to cut her open and then tear the hard stuff. some thing like that but it isn't described to much i don't think it would be to bad for the 12 year old I'm not sure about the eleven year old. i think you should read it first just in case because everyone has their own opinions
