Is the brake pad clip very important?

On my mother's 94 dodge colt, the new brake pads were smaller than the old ones and the clip doesn't really stay on, so I just glued it. It doesn't seem to be load-bearing. What does the clip even do? Should I fix it soon with a new clip?

  1. it holds the pad in place and keeps it from rattling.

  2. No, I dont think the brake hardware is meant to be glued. You said the pads are smaller, I suggest getting the correct brake pads.

  3. if its the one that is on the back of pad that holds pad in place  while puting it together is nothing but you can always just bent it a bit and it will stick

  4. If pads are smaller you got wrong part. You will have problems if you try to go with wrong parts.
