  1. When paper catches fire and burns, there's a lot of energy given out and so it is exergonic.  The burning is spontaneous because the process goes on by itself without any further help after a match starts it

  2. The oxidation of paper is a spontaneous reaction.  Just look at the delta G.  The only difference here is that you've increased the rate of the reaction.  It's still the same reaction, it's just occurring faster.  The delta G is still negative and it remains spontaneous.

And climberguy, you're more than a little off.  Whether or not a reaction is spontaneous says NOTHING about its rate.  The rusting of iron is spontaneous, but it is instant?  I suggest you brush up on your thermodynamics and learn to differentiate this field from kinetics.

  3. nonspontaneous. if it was, it would be over instantaneously, and it obviously isnt.

    exergonic. means heat is released.

    make it a good day

  4. Spontaneous and exergonic.

  5. Generally, burning of anything requires a stimulus (like a match), and it generally gives off heat (is exothermic).
