Car auctions can be a great place to get a good deal on a car, some cars better than others, but there are always gems that you can get at car auctions where you can save a bundle of denero!

Car auctions are probably better places than most to get a fuel efficient car these days (god knows everyone needs one now) instead of paying an arm and a leg for a hybrid.

not for the average buyer.

you have to be very knowledgeable about cars and be able to look at a vehicle and recognize if it's a god deal or not.

can you look at an engine and tell if the block is cracked or the owner just spilled some oil.

if your in a poker game and you can't tell which one of the players is the patsy, it's you.

Car auctions are often the place where dealers dump cars they can't sell.

Police auctions are different story.  They have very nice are that was impounded because of bad driver - not bad car.  But some cars were towed for parking violations (etc.) and the owner thought the car was in such a bad shape it was not worth paying the fine - so avoid these.

some of them are ,others have a bad reputation for allowing junk cars to be sold at them,check the auction place out before going to it,find out if they sell good vehicles or allow anything to go through the sales,i have bought a lot of good cars through some auctions before,and i have bought a few that didn't even make it home,good luck with it.

If you know about cars it is a good place to get a good running car cheap.  Also many dealers buy vehicles from auctions its not the dumping spot for bad vehicles

It is a great place to find parts cars but it is a buyers beware market with many if not most of the cars sold as is

so you need to be really aware of the condition of the car that you are buying

at some i have been able to drive the car before the auction(to check trans/etc)

I have been a jockey before i know the kind of stuff some people try to pass through

just be real careful there are deals but there is a lot of--- you have to wade through to get to them

Car auctions are a good place to buy cars from as long as you bring a mechanic with you to check under the hood because most of them are sold in as-is condition. You can get a decent car for a good price usually hundreds or even thousands less than what you would pay at a car dealership. You should check one out some day just to see how you like it.

All i can say is you get what you pay for. Auctions are like the lottery. Sometimes you win and sometimes you loose. Every so often you will find a real gem but alot of the cars are just cheap junkers that people and dealers are trying to part from. Just make sure everything checks out and you'll be fine.
