Question:

Is the clunking sound from my elantra (which has since disappeared) serious?

I was away for 4 weeks and my car sat in the driveway. When I came back and tried to drive my car I was getting a clunking noise from my right front tire. I started to drive it to the shop and after about 10 minutes the noise went away completely. Should I still take it in or is it OK?

  1. Not sure about the clunking sound, but I'd call the police about the disappearance of your Elantra.

  2. There could have been some mud in the tires, which fell off when you started driving.  Although that doesn't make sense if it was just sitting there for a month (maybe a dead squirrel ??)

  3. After sitting in one spot for a prolonged period, all tires will develop flat spots, even though they don't look like they're deflated at all.  It is normal and will correct itself once the tire warms up.  If it has gone away, I wouldn't worry.  Check your tire pressures to be safe.  The proper inflation is listed on a label in the driver's door jamb (or on the tire itself).  Usually 32-35 PSI.

  4. might be the drive axle. (CV shaft)

  5. Have it check out> Nosensee in have drama for a few minutes of your time>

  6. Metal sounding noise or more blunt? Did it get faster as you drove? Did your steering wheel pulse?

I'm guessing you had a flat spot on your tire. The tire warmed up and went away. Not a big deal but make sure your tires are properly inflated.
