  1. it is during a time of war but in times of peace was part of the department of transportation but after sept 11 it became a part of the dept of homeland security during peace time

  2. YES

Whether we are at war or fall under DOD is irrelevant

People on here crack me up - How can you "thumb down" a fact?

  3. Yes.  It is a separate branch of the military being a part of the United States Homeland Security branch and not the department of defense like the other branches of the service.  It is considered to be the military though

  4. Department of Homeland Security.  During wartime it is activated as an arm of the military. Either way, it is always considered a uniformed service of the United States.  Furthermore, even when not in wartime and under the DHS, the USCG and its members are subject to the Uniformed Code of Military Justice.

  5. unfortunately the US government believes that the greatest threat to the US is not MS13, the Latino drugs cartels and Mexican drugs gangs but Iraqi fighters.

    It's an oil thing.

Expect to be underfunded in the Coast Guard, and if you make a violent arrest expect to be punished for hurting a foreign national.

I say bring home the troops and put them to real work, ie defending the borders and patrolling the ghettos before patriotic Americans start a revolution.

and to think, we Americans had a revolution over tea.  Sad.

  6. Yes.  The Pentagon is not the headquarters for all 5 branches of the military.  Only 4 out of 5 are housed there.  USCG's headquarters is in downtown DC not Arlington as the Pentagon is.

The five uniformed services that make up the Armed Forces are defined in 10 U.S.C. § 101(a)(4):

"The term "armed forces" means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard."

The Coast Guard is further defined by 14 U.S.C. § 1:

"The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times. The Coast Guard shall be a service in the Department of Homeland Security, except when operating as a service in the Navy."

  7. Yes, however, I believe it belongs to Homeland Security and not the Department of Defense. Nonetheless, the Coast Guard is still military and has basic training, etc. similar to the other branches.
