Question:

Is the coffee business dying?

Is the economy and talks of a recession keeping people away from buying high-end coffee? Or is the coffee business recession free? I'm looking at buying a coffee shop and am curious to see if people are still spending on gourmet coffee.

  1. The coffee business will NEVER go out of style, EVER!!

There are too many people addicted (like myself) who just HAVE to have every day! Like right now, drinking my coffee.

  2. how many times are you going to ask this?!  Three times in a half hour?!

Yes the coffee business is dying especially if McDonald's can do it for less than $2.

  3. No, I don't think that the coffee business will ever die.

Good luck on your new business venture.

  4. I think that coffee is a good market to get into. It is something that people are addicted to, therefore, they need to have it. They might now be buying as expensive of coffee drinks, but they are still buying it. And you can't make the fancy stuff at home (or at least not anything that tastes as good with out a very expensive machine).

  5. during a recession it's getting slower, but this business will never die out in the business world.

  6. I don't know about the economy slowdown effecting 'high end' coffee retailers, but for me the reason I no longer buy the stuff is it is too expensive and too stale. For what the clowns in the green jumpers are selling their worst coffee for I can buy a half pound really good beans so for the price of two cup of swill I can buy a pound of my favorite green coffee.

And as far as a recession is concerned...Not one...By the 'rules' of an economic recession, the nation must post a loss of GNP income for a period of 2 consecutive quarters against the previous quarters earnings. So far the US has NOT posted a loss, but a lower income, that is to say, we posted gains, but not as much as the previous quarter.

O.K....so you earn a buck, one dollar, $1.00 in December. Jan, Feb and March you earn $1.30. Aprl, May and June you earn $1.20 but in July Aug. Sept you only earn $1.05.

Recession?....no, you still earned more than in Dec., but not as much as March. If you had only earned $0.99 then you could say its a recession.

But, if you can't figure out that $4.50 a Charbucks is too much...the math is going to get you lost anyway...
