In the west black is associated with bad, evil or negative things-the black death, the black knight. Movies traditionally dress the villain in Black and the hero in white. Black is worn at funerals, although in India I think they wear white when in mourning.

  1. black is usually used to symbolize evil or death in Asia as well.

  2. Yes it does to white supremists. And the term white doesnt even fit us perfectly - I have yellowish peachy skin does that mean I have white skin? No.......it means I have yellowish peachy skin.

The thing is African people are not Black at all they are dark brown/light brown. But Peachy skined people found a better term for them since the 19th century "black".

  3. In some cases, yes, but not the extent it is associated with in Western culture. You still wear black to mourn in some parts of Africa. Whether that is connected to any Western influence, I'm not sure.

  4. Black is my fave color coz it represents myself as adaptable to all (black color emerges if you combine all colors). In the Philippines since culture here is more Hispanic so black is also associated with death or evil. So if there are funerals or wakes, expect to see the immediate family member of the deceased one wearing black garments. I think in China it is exactly the opposite, they wear white on funerals.

But one thing I like in black color is that it can make me look slim, LOL! :D

  5. in asia. there are soo many skin whitening products. i think being of a whiter complexion is seen as being more wealthy. the darker you are the poorer you are.
