Is the communication cable between uk and us still in use?

i believe it is on the seabed between cornwall and somewhere in the us

  1. no , it hasnt worked for donkeys years.  the first transatlantic telegraph cable installed around 186o ish packed up after a few days.  the second one intalled several years later worked for a long time but never very well.

    the cable end in a little shed at porthcurno cornwall is still there along with cables from gibraltar, the crimea india and spain.

    the first transatlantic telephone cable TAT1 was installed around 1956 and worked well into the 70's.


  2. yes, its still being used....! some have been replaced with fiber-optics.....!

    the maintenance on the old cable is very expensive and time consuming....

    but, most of the communication are done now via satellite!!!

  3. No longer I think. But what an achievement, it wasn't only the US it went to but all over the old Empire. Australia too if I'm not mistaken.

  4. Apparently there are various transatlantic cables that have been and are still in use.

    According to the following source, the AC2 cable (also known as Yellow) was still active as of January, 2007 and upgradable.

  5. The origional has been replaced with a fibre optic one which is used all the time
