i work for this company that i see is trying to cut cost by getting full time people making full rate of pay, getting all health benefits, getting pension, getting 3 to 6 weeks vacation....to move operations 500 miles east or west to make these guys throw in the towel, most guys will have to leave the job cause they own a home or have kids in school and they don't want to ruin their kids lives, some men will relocate and keep working for the same company but the company keeps doing it and doing it, 3 times in 2 years and most employees of this company are fed up with this, they make threats that they are gonna close down if they don't get their way, they use this bad economy as their weapon and our backs to the wall because of this, only thing silly is if you really want to cut costs why don't you get all the office workers at our company out on the street to do some real work and stop hiring people that stand around doing nothing all day, if i had a camcorder and took a video on what

  1. I don't think they are dishonest, they're not fooling anyone as to why they are moving, but it is immoral to treat people that way.

In a year and a half my company will lock us out and ask us to cut our wages in half or they will move, it is the typical move companies are making in my State of Michigan, you probably have heard about one of our local companies called American Axial doing this and causing GM to close some of their plants.

We have one salaried employee for 2 hourly employees and they too stand or actually sit around alot and that costs us money in more ways than one, because problems don't get solved so bad product gets produced then scrapped, so I agree the company needs to look in the mirror before it starts pointing the finger at us.

  2. It's only dishonest if they don't tell you what they're doing, but they are telling you with their actions.  Lots of companies are looking for ways to reduce overhead and a prime component is salaries/benefits.  All of you need to find jobs with someone else, as difficult as that may be, or find entirely different lines of work.  Your employer is a crum-bum who exploits people.

  3. To a degree, all companies are not completely honest. It's the nature of things at times. It is a gray area. It doesn't seem like it makes that much sense to move around as often as they do but then again I'm not seeing the numbers. I wonder how good of an analysis they are doing. There are costs that are not going to be all that apparent. You have to do some digging. Employee morale being a factor. Training costs for new hires. I'm an office worker. I've worked very hard. It's busy or slow at my place.

They sound spoiled by making threats like that. Is it necessary? That to me should be an absolute last resort. But again I'm on the outside obviously. I don't know what you can do about it. It's wrong based on what I read here. It seems to be the way these days. I work for a company that is based overseas. They bought a U.S. company to expand.

Your company sounds like it only exists to make money for an elite few and to keep the stock price up. It doesn't sound like a company that can possibly care about its customers and its employees. I don't think customers like businesses up and moving every so often.
