Question:

Is the conspiracy for reliance on oil so strong that we will never see the EV1 or similar again?

It is so frustrating! The new supposed GM Volt is being purposely designed with a high price tag and a battery capacity less than 1/4 of the OLD GM EV-1. What a scam! Also, the production date is set to 2010. Perhaps it will never be sold because they'll be afraid people might try to modify the vehicles with bigger batteries and actually give the finger to gas!? Why doesn't some rich entrepreneur start up a small electric company like Delorean did with the DMC?

  1. Simple, Freemasonry that's your problem. Don't believe it take a look around, there the only ones working, and riding around on their Harley's on the weekend, taking vacations and living it up, dig in and learn the truth.. about who's really behind all this c**p thats going on in the world..Then take a stand...

  2. There are a bunch of small EV companies.  ZAP, Miles, ZENN, Tesla, Green Vehicles, etc. etc. etc.  See the link below for many examples.

The oil companies would love if there were no EVs, but they don't have the power to prevent them from being successful.

  3. GM has already spent too much money on the Volt to let it die on the vine.  It will be making production as early as late next year.  Yes it only has a range of 40 miles on electric alone and yes it does require gas to go beyond that, but 90% of Americans commute less than 40 miles per day, so think of all the fuel that will save.

Also, unlike the EV-1, the Volt will be sold to consumers as a production model, rather than leased by corporate.  Therefore, they won't be repossessed by GM and crushed like the EV-1's were.

  4. It is not a conspiracy ;;; We will never run out of oil & gas,so why pay 10 times what it will cost U with gasoline. Plants recycle CO2 and give us O2 but keeps the C . The dead plants break down into Oil & gas

  5. Oldwhite, what a ridiculous comparison -- to multiply the cost of a laptop battery to extrapolate the cost of powering a car.  Ever hear of economy of scale?  To go with your logic, take the average capacity of a $4 9-volt battery (600mAh) and divide into the capacity of a typical lead-acid car battery (25Ah) and the car battery should cost $167 according to your math.  But of course the two are entirely different animals to begin with, and such a rudimentary cost analysis is pointless.

  6. The conspiracy is so strong, Big Oil couldn't allow Gore to become president.  Corporations run the government which is why we don't have good public transportation or roads and cities designed so people can walk or bike to work.  If we didn't need our cars, think of all the money lost on cars, gas, car insurance, maintenance, and gas taxes.  This is why we have a high speed highway instead of high speed trains like in Europe.

  7. 1) Go on the internet and get the price for a lithium-ion battery for your laptop.  2) Multiply that by about 100 to get the power you will need to power a car for 10 miles.  3) Add that to the price of a basic car, and you will come out with $40,000.

Now, go to A123 systems for updates.  Go to Venture One for an upcoming vehicle.  Check out the ABAT and the Honda CRZ which should be out soon.

June 23rd - Backprop, the price I have read about for the Chevy Volt which was given by a GM exec. was more than $40,000 for basically a Chevy Malibu.  I think my comparision is more on target than you think.  In addition, there are not really economies of scale, because Lithium Ion batteries have the nasty habit of catching on fire when one attempts to make them larger.  So there has to be banks of little batteries about the size of C-cells.

  8. The one EV car I currently have (have 2 vehicles that run on hydrogen also) I converted from a vw bug and is free to charge. As I live completely off the grid all my electricity comes from solar panels and 2 wind generators, which I also built.

However I did charge up at Costco in Carlsbad California (I actually only drove up there to fill up) if I remember right it was around $2.00

Not sure if you’re interesting in doing it yourself, but I’d be willing to walk you step by step threw the conversion. I've converted 3 of my own cars (a datsun truck, ford ban, and a vw bug) and a few for neighbors. I've also converted cars to run on hydrogen, ethanol and biodiesel, by far EV is the easiest.

If you’re interested here’s what it would entitle…

    - The engine compartment is first cleaned out of any gasoline components.

    - Electric components are then installed in exchange.

    - A battery bank is built and incorporated.

    - Existing starter and driving systems are connected.

    - Turn the key, step on the gas pedal sending more energy to the electric motor, & thus more power to the drive system, which in return creates more speed, more acceleration.

    - The system has normal automotive top speeds and acceleration, typical to the vehicle your modifying. If your top speed was 85 mph and your acceleration was 1 mile per min, then this will be what your left with after the conversion.

The methods are extremely simple, making the process possible for anyone, everyone, ANYWHERE.

Typical tools, hardware & supplies are used, making access to parts available for all.

Electric Conversions can be easily accomplished in ANY model vehicle, even tractors, Generators, types of machinery, etc.

Project lengths range from 1 day to 1 month.

If you’re interested I wrote a guide on it which is available at www agua-luna com

My last EV conversion ran me about $1400. Everything is available online. I have a how to do it yourself guide available at www agua-luna com that will walk you step by step through the process. If you have ANY questions feel free to contact me through the site. Here’s a list of what you'd need...

    Advanced DC Motor

The motor is an 8" Advanced DC series-wound motor. It weighs 107 pounds and is rated at 68 peak horsepower. These motors are available in several sizes.

    Adaptor plate

The adaptor plate mates the motor to the transmission. It is constructed of 1/2 inch aluminum and is pre-drilled with bolt hole patterns for both the motor and transmission. An aluminum spacer is also used for proper spacing between the shafts of the transmission and motor. Adaptor plates are available for many cars.

    DC Motor Controller

The controller regulates current going to the motor. It is a solid-state device that uses a pulse width modulator (PWM) that sends short bursts of current to the motor at a rate of 15 kHz. Controllers are available from both Curtis and DCP.

    Potbox (Potentiometer)

The potbox is a 5K ohm throttle between the controller and the accelerator, similar to the way a sewing machine pedal works. The potbox's lever arm is attached to the existing accelerator cable.

    Main Contactor

An electric relay that serves the same purpose as the ignition switch in a gas car. When the key is turned to the start position, the contactor closes the circuit to allow current to flow to the controller.

    Circuit Breaker

A safety device that shuts down power for servicing or during an emergency. The circuit breaker is installed under the hood and can be switched both off and on from the drivers seat with an extension or cable.

    Main Fuse

The main fuse protect the system from high voltage spikes. A fuse should be installed at each battery box or group of batteries.

    Shunt

A shunt is placed in series within the wiring as a means to connect meters. Shunts are available in different sizes for both high and low power configurations.

    Charger interlock

A relay that keeps the circuit open so nobody will inadvertantly drive off with the charge cord plugged into the car.

    DC/DC Converter

The DC/DC converter is similar in function to a gas car's alternator. It charges the 12 volt accessory battery by chopping voltage from the main battery pack down to 13.5 volts.

  10. You point to Delorean as an example, that's a company that only ever made one model before going bankrupt.  "Rich entrepreneurs" got rich by avoiding putting their money into companies like that.
