Is the cost of living in Dublin, Ireland worth it?

I've been accepted to study abroad at Dublin City University in Ireland. I'm from a quaint Wisconsin town and have never lived in a big city--and have never been to Europe! On-campus housing is full, so I've been looking at off-campus student complexes such as Shanowen Square. This would be the experience of a lifetime, but it's really going to put me in the hole money-wise. I know Dublin is an extremely pricey place to live. Right now I'm on the fence about it!

  1. Dublin is lovely its a small city compared to London and others so you can feel right at home in it. If its going to put you in a hole-money wise though I wouldn't recommend doing it. I don't believe in starting off life in debt. If you can afford a vacation here you should come.

  2. I have been living and working in Dublin for two years now and yes, it is very expensive. I am from Germany and I have lived in England and Australia before and I am confident to say, considering value for money Dublin is not worth it. Even on am minimun budget you might need about 1000 Euro for living and this does not include much of going to the pub. Don´t get me wrong, Dublin is not a bad place to live at, but there are other Cities in Europe that have much more to offer.

  3. yeap it is to live in the best country in the world......but really it a prise you pay to live in the city...lol

  4. How long would you be abroad?  I'm from IL and currently living in Dublin and yes, it is expensive.  I would recommend checking out daft.ie and seeing if you can rent a room or share a place with others.  It's what I am doing and really does save a lot of money and they tend to have deals for students.  If you stick to only buying the basics while you're there, you'd be OK, but things like eating out and drinking cost double what they do in the states.  If you can possibly swing it money-wise, I would do it.  Especially if you'd be able to travel outside of Dublin (even just an hour or two outside) to experience the country.

  5. You should come to Dublin!!! We're all so welcoming!!!
