  1. Yes most definitely.

  2. hi

i dont live in hawaii i live in the uk, and i myself are planning on moving there!

ive done a lot of research so i can answer your question in detail!

Number 1, yes its a lot different, hawaii is the most isolated set of islands in the whole world, so as im sure u can imagine, nearly EVERYTHING has to be imported from the Usa and other areas, making simple thing like milk and bread very expensive! like £3 for milk ive heard. and petrol is really expensive! So just simply the cost of living is very high.

Houses are also very expensive, they say the average price for a nice 3/4 bedroomed house is 600-700 dollars (around 300,000-350,000 pound) (also as its a small island and land is scarce the houses dont generally have big gardens which is a downside for me)....However i have been reasearching houses and have found some HUGE houses 4 beds 2 bath and a decent size garden for around 450,000 dollars (225,000 pound) so i think it just depends where u move to, but u can find very nice cheaper houses!!!

1 think you need to remember tho, bcuz the cost of living is a lot more expensive, your wages make up for it!!

Im a nurse and get paid around 22k pounds each in england, if i moved to hawaii id be on at LEAST 32K (starting salary 60,000 - 90,000 dollars) so between me and my bf, we could afford to live there, as we get paid more!

PLUS rent is even more expensive i think between £1,000-2,500 pounds a month (and that dont include your bills)

I would do some research into ALL of the islands, see which you like best, and then look into cost of living for that island as it varies island to island!

Good Luck! - please pick as best answer :-)

Errmm Anna P, How am i not entierly correct when you have just said everything i have said? and in the small island jobs are scarce but in Oahu there are many job opportunities (altho yes not as many as in other parts of the world)

  3. Carly is not entirely correct, and should continue her research.  If you are used to London it's about the same cost of living, but the salaries are much lower than on the mainland US.  Cost of living is similar to NYC and San Francisco.  Rent on your own is at least $1000 a month, and many people share housing.  Jobs are getting scarcer now that the economy is going down--only areas like nursing, teaching and engineering have lots of opportunities.

Remember that you must be qualified in US terms for these jobs--including nurses as much as we need them.  The occupations are sometimes very different to Europe, so be sure you check ahead of time.

Do you have a US work visa?  You cannot work legally without it unless you also have a US passport (too bad we can't just exchange, as many Americans want to live in Europe).
