  1. I think that several advances in science & technology have changed human development in the last 200 or so years.

I am not really sure what you mean to ask.

Are you talking about the Southern Confederates being the same as the Republicans and the Northern Yankees being the same as the Democrats? Where would the Carpetbaggers fit in?

    Please clarify...

    :^D  Thanks

    Edit:

    Thanks for the clarification...

There is indeed a division, it spans racial origins, color and educational levels....it is a division of economic fairness.

There are no state lines to separate those who have the most (and continue to sell "borrow what you don't have & pay for it later" [sometimes at rates that are nearly impossible to pay back AND feed your family]) and those who still hold true to "save up & when you have the $$ then buy it".

The US gov't seems to have a "hard-on" for getting it's citizens in debt.

    Why do I think this?

    - Some of us worked our way through college.  Now as I am sorting through the myriad of forms for my child's college funding - it's seems that if you make $5/hour then you are are a prime candidate to get a loan for your education (since I earn more than that - the odds are that if I intend for my daughter to graduate from college, I'd better prepare myself to owe).

    - There is a real problem when the only option for dwelling in a decent neighborhood (and others not so great) is to go into debt and buy a condo OR be homeless (at least in NYC) to be able to qualify for Section 8 or the real desireable Housing Authority system :^b

    where is the in between.

That is the real division & if something is not done to improve our rising costs to live - many more will be joining the latter category.

  2. let me tell you something.........

I have BEEN to the SOUTH..............

there are some seriously deranged nuts down there.

The kind of people who refer to Obama's children as "baboons" or little monkeys.

They still PROUDLY fly the  Confederate flag over STATE capitols.

They have gone NOWHERE-------intellectually , since the Civil war.

    Scary, scary people........

  3. I don't think it is quite that geographically defined but the country is definitely split.

  4. If you look at most voting maps it is east coast and west coast. dems. Reps fly over country.

no the south was the democrats who enslaved the blacks, the north (or Union as we like to say) were the republicans, like Abraham Lincoln, the republican president who signed the Emancipation proclamation that freed the slaves from tyranny under the southern democrat rule...   you did look this up before you posted this question, right?.

  6. Maybe we are not ready for a black President!

I think we are ready will see.

I don't think race is a huge issue both John McCain and Obama are good men.

  7. All the business from the north fled south to avoid unions.

So in the end the south won big time.

  8. Yes, this country is divided. Hopefully our great grand kids don't have to live in a country where racist and bigots walk among us.

  9. Yes and it's disgusting. If I hear the terms "wingnut", "moonbat", "repug" or "liberal lunatic" again, I'm going to go crazy.

    People can't behave like adults.
