Is the crab meat cooked?

Stupid question, I know, but...

I just purchased a plastic tub of crab meat from Sam's Club and it reads, "Steamed under pressure."

Is the crab meat cooked already?

I'm going to make crab rice cakes and the recipe states to cook 5 min on each side.

Is 10 min enought to cook crabmeat if it is not already cooked? If it is cooked, will these 10 min overcook the crabmeat?

Yes, it's cooked.  They can't get it out of the shell unless it's cooked.

most if not all bought crab meat would be cooked the recipe simply means to cook ur rice cakes so they get a bit of colour and can heat through the crab is cooked

To me, no question is stupid when it comes to safely cooking food, if you are uncertain.  To answer you questions though, Yes, your crab meat that you bought from Sam's Club is already cooked, and the message on the can is just telling you how it was done, that's all.  As for you recipes cooking time, that sounds absolutely correct.  Cooking your cakes for 5 minutes on each side will thoroughly heat all of your ingredients together and insures that they all incorporate together and have a nice brown exterior. You're doing great but glad you stopped by to be sure that your crabs cakes will not only be safe to eat, but properly cooked as well.  Happy dinner to you and your family!

The heat from the steaming will have cooked them.

Just make your patties, heat and eat.

its steamed so yes its cooked. It will be a bit tough.

It should be cooked it it tells you how to make crabcakes, and they will not overcook!

Is the crab meat white? or whitish? and flaky/stringy?  If so, it's cooked.

I believe it is cooked since it's steamed under pressure.  Also,  It's difficult to find raw crab meat.  

Raw crab meat looks sort of translucent and soft... like raw chicken (kind of, sort of).

Yes, it is already cooked.  Cook only long enough to slightly brown and heat through on both sides...three to five minutes on medium heat.

It is already cooked.  Follow your directions from the recipe and you will be fine, don't compensate for additional cook time as they crab cakes may not turn out the way they are suppose to.
