  1. Seija, the descent from Queen Victoria isn't their closest relationship.

They are second cousins once removed via Christian IX of Denmark and his wife Louise of Hesse-Cassel:

Christian IX of Denmark --> George I of Greece --> Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark --> Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Christian IX of Denmark --> Alexandra of Denmark --> George V of the United Kingdom --> George VI of the United Kingdom --> Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom

  2. There is no such thing as the Queen of England, she is Queen of the UK.

  3. They are third cousins and they are also second cousins once removed.

  4. Yes,they are THIRD cousins--they have stated this officially;the link is through Queen Victoria.

Some people say that they are both second and third cousins, but in all published works I've read,it's always been stated that they are third cousins. Perhaps the second cousin linkage is tenuous at best.

  5. They are distant cousins. They are both descended from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Edward VII - George V- George VI - Elizabeth II

Edward VII's sister Alice - Victoria (who married Louis of Battenburg) - Alice (who married Andrew of Greece) - Prince Philip

  6. Very distant cousins - they are both descedants of Queen Victoria (Prince Philip is actually in line to the throne but there are about 580 odd heirs above him).
