Is the digital converter for my DVD player the same as the one needed for digi TV?

with my very old Sony TV, I use a digital converter box to get the signal from my dvd player into the coax cable input for the TV. Signal from antenna goes into the converter box as well.

Am I already watching digital TV signal and not analog anymore? It seems like there are extra stations and better reception.

  1. With the limited amount of information you have provided, I would have to say yes.  Some older TVs only had "cable ready" connectors on the back, so unless yours has "RCA" type inputs (the type that use round push-on connectors), you are on digital for your TV signal, and the DVD signal just passes through the box and is reformatted to the "cable" output on the box.
