I called the court house today to find out the status of my divorce. And the clerk told me it has been signed I was happy but didn't ask what does that mean. So when the clerk tells you the judgment was signed. AM I really divorced! I just can't believe it! I live in NEw York by the way!

  1. The divorce isn't final until at least you leave the final court hearing.  I know people that just didn't show up and they were still legally married.

  2. Yes, once the judgment is signed your divorce is final.  Aside from any state required waiting period before remarriage, you're free of strings.  The court will send the final decree to your attorney, who should forward it to you.  If you didn't have an attorney it will be mailed directly to you.  Congratulations, I guess.
