These countries are being blamed for the ridiculous rises in Oil and Gas and the raise in scrap metal prices to record levels. Can the world cope with these two massive countries draining us of OIL GAS and polluting the planet aswell?

  1. Both those nations are corrupt from top to bottom, they are booming too fast for it all not to come crashing down around their ears, then you1ll see destabilsing, put money on it.

  2. We have been draining the world of resources and polluting the planet since the industrial revolution so we are hardly in a position to complain because we are now being asked to share.

  3. "Can the world cope with these two massive countries draining us of OIL GAS and polluting the planet aswell?"

we can't blame others when we (the western world) have been polluting the planet with our gluttonous ways for over a century.

can you blame them for wanting cars or a stronger, more competitive economy? no.

as those kids would say, 'dont hate the playa, hate the game'

  4. Ehh I blame the high dependence on oil by different countries for it.  Too many people depend on oil because it is used by so many...and its time we find another way out of it.  We need to work with businesses and researchers to create lots of alternate energy- that way we won't need anymore oil or at least reduce our need for that. :/

  5. The problem is we rely to much on other countries now day's. That is the problem.

If you get a apartment with a friend you should be able to afford that apartment if something go's wrong and he moves out on you. Thats why you don't get an apartment that is way to expensive.

Same thing with america we can't just rely on other countries just like people can't rely on roomates. Gotta take care of ourselves.

  6. Do you know how much FDI there is in Africa now thanks to China? Granted it is not always ethical, so that could be an argument against.

It is ALWAYS better to have richer partners than poorer partners when it comes to trading. Some people will lose out, such as low-skilled workers in the US, but overall growth in China and India is great.

You are right though, with increased trade, there is increased interdependence and this could pose a problem to the West if the East suffers a financial shock. Therefore, so long as China and India have sound institutions in place, their rapid growth is mainly a good thing.

As for pollution, there is a hypothesis in economics called the Environmental Kuznets Hypothesis. It states that as countries expand, they will pollute more, but after a certain level of income they will be more able to invest in environmentally friendly technology and reduce their pollution! However this will take time as these countries are still quite poor- remember that rich countries such as the UK, USA and Japan are still not investing very highly in renewable energy resources!
