Is the drive to collect things genetic? Neurological?

  1. "Hoarding" is a method a patient uses to reduce anxiety and maintain some semblance of control of his/her world.

    The only thing about it that could be "genetic" is the propensity for having an anxiety disorder.


  2. That goes back to the old discussion of biology versus environment.  You could be driven to collect things because your parents always did.  But I don't know of any research  done on collecting and genetics.  Or it could be the need to fill a void  that the person has pychologically.
