  1. Elizabeth II and Gerald (Grosvenor), 6th Duke of Westminster, are double fifth cousins, once removed, via these lines of descent:

    Elizabeth:

William Cavendish, Duke of Devonshire → Lady Dorothy Cavendish → Lord Charles Cavendish-Bentinck→ Rev. Charles Cavendish-Bentinck → Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck → Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons → Elizabeth II

    The Duke:

William Cavendish, Duke of Devonshire → George Cavendish, Earl of Burlington → Charles Cavendish, Baron Chesham → William Cavendish, Baron Chesham → Mary Cavendish → John Lyttelton, Viscount Cobham → Viola Lyttelton → the 6th Duke of Westminster, but also:

William Cavendish, Duke of Devonshire → George Cavendish, Earl of Burlington → Charles Cavendish, Baron Chesham → William Cavendish, Baron Chesham → Katherine Cavendish → Lord Hugh Grosvenor → Robert Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster → the 6th Duke of Westminster

Because the Duke is descended from their common ancestor twice in the same degree, it doubles their relationship. They have more different descents from this common ancestor and others, but this is their closest relationship.

The Duke probably has distant descent from early Kings of England or Scotland but neither of these place him in line of succession, which is limited to descendants in legitimate lines from Sophia, Electress of Hanover.

  2. No

  3. They Duke of Westminister (DOW) is not royal and is not in the line of succession.

English peerage are Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount, and Baron. Duke is the highest rank. Many royals are Dukes, but not all Dukes are royal.

DOW is the richest aristocrat in the United Kingdom, he was Britain's wealthiest individual for many years and now is ranked #3.  An estimated fortune of £7 billion ($14 billion) is derived largely from property in central London, where he owns approximately 300 acres  of the most exclusive commercial and residential property in Mayfair and Belgravia (including the land on which the U.S. Embassy stands, in Grosvenor Square), as well as estates in Lancashire, Cheshire (Eaton Hall) and Scotland.

On 11 February 2007, the Duke was exposed by the News of the World for hiring four prostitutes in six weeks to visit him at his mews house in the West End of London.
