  1. That hypothesis fails the test of parsimony because testing it would require knowing first whether aliens exist and have the capacity to do as you suggest.  A better hypothesis to explain the lack of open interaction between Earth and aliens is that there is nothing nearby enough to interact with.

That said, if a guy named Klaatu says something to you, please report it back here.

  2. ROTFLMAO

  3. You know, Clavius was kinda right when he was typing about parsimony. Only i prefer the Cartesian method that Descartes implemented to doubt everything until proven and there is no way your theory is empirical. I <3 Descartes; great mathematician great philosopher, great scientist:) back to ur question, how do you know we aren't already in quarantine? am i the only one who's surpised that we haven't destroyed the world yet? what really is at the end of black holes? what if we are in a controlled environment so some higher species can study how we interact. What if that species is reading this right now? I think there is a definite chance that there is a higher being waching us, but I'm a little cautious of a whole other species. When you think about it, on a large scale, it seems like there must be other living galaxies, other more intelligent species, other completely different ways of life. It wouldn't make sense for us to be here if we are the only ones being watched. Then I start thinking of the Vermicious Knids in Roald Dahl's imagination and I start doubting again. I would put it at 50-50 there are other creatures, 20-60 they've quarantined us.

  4. I think the chances of that are better than that of aliens regularly visiting, planting anal probes, creating crop circles, performing cattle mutilation and other ridiculous claims.

Nevertheless, chances of any of this being real is pretty close to zero.

  5. First off, we have to define " the rest of the intelligent life", how many is " the rest ". Second, why bother, we aren't going anywhere, we are stuck here on this little blue and green planet out on the edge of the galaxy, with star systems spread far apart. There is nothing here that they can't get someplace else alot easier. There is no doubt that we may be watched but not guarantined.

  6. My My My, what a smart bit of business you are.

  7. What do you mean by "the 'rest' of the intelligent life".

Are you implying that any space-faring specie would consider us intelligent?

I think we are being quarantined by ourselves: we have made our atmosphere poisonous to everyone (including ourselves), we are destroying the ecosystem and we have proven, time after time, that we are dangerous to be around.

If they are really intelligent, then they are staying away for their own safety, not ours.

On the other hand, it could be that there is no one else within visiting distance...

  8. it's Being Surrounded by a Vast Armada of Feline Ships , (with Cloaking Devices "can't see 'em") , and Cats/Kittens Will Have Their Revenge in this life or the next against hominids who mistreat and don't help care for Cats and Kittens !

    The Oracle Has Spoken !

  9. That would be virtually impossible in my opinion.

  10. From a purely statistical point of view, it is more likely that we are indeed being quarantined rather than that there is no intelligent life out there whatsoever, since there are too many stars and planets out there.  But then you would also have to assume that those millions of inhabited planets all agreed to quarantine Earth, which is near nigh impossible
