Is the eaves like and attic?

in this book that i have they say that eaves are an attic and i dont know what they are. please help.

  1. Eaves are outside the wall and under the roof. Usually there is an horizontal board right at the edge of the roof (fascia) and then some space back to the outside wall of the house. Sometimes you can see the rafters and the bottom side of the roof decking. This space is usually one to two feet deep and of course as long as the house. More often this space is covered with some kind of plywood (soffit) and you can't see the rafters. Then all the way against the wall at the top you will see another horizontal board a bit smaller than the fascia that the brick tucks under. If you have brick of course.
