Question:

Is the end of the world nigh?

So, I was watching this tv show that tells a lot about the Apocalypse and apparently the ancient Mayan calender shows the end of the world to be in 2012 as the calender stops there with the apocalypse and many other books of predictions made by ancient oracles and prophets whose predictions are rarely wrong (some even predicted the rise of Hitler) all predict the end of the world to be at 2012. An ancient Chinese book has been researched and found a pattern that is a time line that shows all the major events of the world but it all ends at one specific date: December 21, 2012. Even the bible talks of this but no the number 666 is not the sign of the end of the world it is the name of an ancient emperor who killed a lot of Christians. So, is any of this true?

  1. Hilary of Poitiers predicted the world would end in 365...

Pope Innocent III expected the Second Coming to take place in 1284, 666 years after the rise of Islam....

Eustachius Poyssel used numerology to pinpoint 1623 as the year of the end of the world....

The only thing that I think we can predict with any historical reliability is that we'll always love to preach an apocalptic doom.

  2. i think so. not because of the 2012 thing though

  3. Quetzalcoatl is coming, look busy!

  4. from what i made out of it 50% of us are supposed to die in 2012, and apparently soem astronoers said we'd be in the middle of the galaxy on that date, and that there was supposed to be a gravitational shift (180 degrees), causing all the continents to move around, and for the planet to be all violent and tsunamies, and volcanoes and ****.  i could def see that killing half of us off.  there's also supposed to be a black hole in the center of our galaxy and that could do it (all of us obviously) unless black holes are actually gateways into heaven, but i doubt it...  :(

whatev, i personally don't put a lot of stock into the end of the world, but ive got to admit if it is i'd be glad its during my lifetime? it would be cool to see how many people smile and are excited and how many people are weeping.  ESPEACIALLY if it was a black hole i mean thats beast

  5. its all superstition. the world won't end like THAT (pretend you just heard that snap while you read THAT.)

  6. I feel something dark coming, and I'm a Pagan eclectic, and not into the whole christian apocalypse death trip vibe.

  7. I am skeptic when it comes to prophecies; remember all the fuss about the year 2000 and how people tried to link it to Nostradamus and other doom sayers, saying that doesn't mean life on earth will remain forever; it is totally dependent on the natural equilibrium. besides we have enough nuke on earth capable of sending us to oblivion without the long wait for a prophecy it just requires an idiot to push the button.

  8. Odd, how a calendar that "predicted" a small historical point in human history such as Hitler failed to predict exceedingly bigger crucial turning points, such as the flu plague in the 19th century, the violent loss of entire civilizations such as Minoans, the climate-altering destruction from the likes of  Vesuvius and Krakatoa, the invention of flight, moon travel, computers, literacy, or cruelties of leaders that make Hitler look like a girl scout such as Vlad the impaler and Caligula.

But I'll tell you what.  I'll write a book that says the world will end in 3055.  I'll quote nebulous people with nebulous credentials to prove it.  I'll take extra care not to allow anyone with legitimate counter-point to my theory to skew my  contentions.  If you want, I'll make a Youtube video.  That should do it.  My credentials for predicting the end of the world will match those of the source you are currently tempted to believe.  Then you'll have another thousand years.

  9. you are wrong sorry...there are dates AFTER 2012 in the mayan calendar...2012 is just the ceremony of some big event in mayan history...there are dates as far as 3000 in the mayan calendar...look up the mayan claendar on wikipeida
