Question:

Is the entire BBC series, "Dr. Who" available on DVD?

I am interested in watching from the start - the very first episode (November, 1963). Netflix doesn't have the first few episodes and seems to have a random collection. What Amazon (even Amazon.co.uk) sells is also not a chronological series of DVDs that you can usually purchase for TV series. If not, is there any places I could download, bit torrent or otherwise...to watch this show? Thanks for any tips.

  1. www.surfthechannel.com had every surviving episode of the classic series of Doctor Who until recently - most of them seem to have been deleted now but there's still a half decent collection of classic episodes available to stream there: http://www.surfthechannel.com/show/telev...

Unfortunately the entire series isn't available on DVD (yet) - random stories are released on DVD every couple of months & there's a pretty good selection available now.  You can get a DVD boxset with the first three stories from 1963 from Amazon for about $26.50 - it's called 'The Beginning Collection'.  You can all the other classic series Doctor Who DVD's from Amazon too.

Apart from that you could probably find most of the other stories on old VHS tapes.  I ordered a lot of old Doctor Who episodes on VHS from Amazon from third party sellers & most of them were quite reasonably priced.

You might find this site useful for a chronological episode guide: http://www.gallifreyone.com/epguide.php so you can watch them all in the correct order.

  2. Some of the old episodes was destroyed by the BBC to save space. The ones that survived are being released on DVD all the time.

  3. They are only out in those random collections, sorry.

In fact, a good bunch of the early episodes were lost in a fire, and others have been very poorly preserved so there will never be a definitive collection of all of the Doctor Who episodes.

Those collections are really the best you can do.
