Is the environment worth giving up freedom for?

Is the environment worth giving up freedom for? Lets say you support the environment, but you live too far from work to walk or bicycle. This obviously means taking motorized transportation. If you travel in your own car you can take your firearm with you, but you'll be polluting. If you travel by mass transit (bus, light rail, subway) you won't be polluting, but you'll be arrested if you take your firearm with you. Do we really need to give up our right to keep and bear arms for the environment? I don't know about you, but I'm a US citizen and I want freedom.

  1. This is not an answer, just a comment.  I find it interesting that people are questioning your need for freedom.

  2. Of course I won't walk over your argument, being from a different culture, but here in England most wouldn't feel unsafe using public transport without a firearm.

I feel like a have freedom to use my car or to use public transport, without even owning a firearm.

  3. ok, i'm just gonna hope that this is some sort of sarcastic statement.

otherwise: if you ever wonder why lots of europeans have unpleasent feelings about americans in general..... well, that would be a good exaple.

  4. why would you need to take your gun to work with you?  that's ridiculous, whether travelling by bus or private car.

  5. Why do you need to take a firearm to work?

    Just curious.

  6. You are confusing issues. Leaving your gun at home doesn't mean you are giving up the "right" to have it.

It kind of sounds like you're looking for a way to justify a lack of effort re: pollution.

  7. yes

  8. Very well said and I demand both as long as I still live here.

  9. Driving a car is not the major source of pollution.  You can buy a car that gets 50 mpg.  No one is forcing you to drive a polluting SUV.

Also, there are other things than cars that are much worse for the environment.

    Sprawl

    Meat production

    Deforestation

    Industrial pollution

    etc.

  10. Obviously it is not for the majority of the masses.

All over the world the people demand more population, more roads, more and bigger cars, more and bigger houses, more buildings, more products, more power, more convenience, more planes, more, more, more.

  11. Mass transit pollutes. The resources spent to build and maintain mass transit systems far exceed what is used by individuals to travel in their own vehicles. Mass transit just makes it easier for criminals to travel from the ghetto to other parts of town.

  12. YES! 100% YES!
