  1. Early fall is the best time to plant, divide or transplant peonies according to most gardening sites.

  2. Late summer might be better.  They will need time to establish new roots and get settled in before the cold weather arrives.  Spring is probably the ideal time for planting Peonies.

  3. Early fall is best, If you buy them from the catalogs won't even send to you until it is the best planting time. Early fall or spring, is the best time to plant anything.

I have always planted mine in spring but my aunt swears the fall is the best.

  4. Mid to late August is the best time.

Caution, do not plant them deep!! One to one and one half inches is deep enough.
