Is the flight from Johannesburg to Sydney longer than NYC to London?

Also is flying from South Africa to Australia considered economical or is it expensive?

A non-stop flight from NYC to London takes about 6hrs and 45 min.  From Johannesburg to Sydney, about 11 hrs 45 min.  And a one-way for the latter would cost roughly US$1240, which I would consider pretty pricey.  Round trip would be about US$1680, which isn't too unreasonable considering the distance.
